 The Whitehaven Office
Welcome to the Whitehaven office and studio. This is the centre of operations for our west Cumbria news gathering team. If you're able to drop by, please do so. You will find us above the Post Office in Lowther Street. However, if you're unable to pay us a call in person - here you will be able to see some of the studio and office in our "virtual tour".

The Front Door
This is the way in to our office. This unassuming front door leads to our main west Cumbria studio. For as long as BBC Radio Cumbria has served the county - indeed before the station was renamed from BBC Radio Carlisle - there has always been a member of staff based in these studios. West Cumbria plays an important part in the make-up of county life and has such a strong identity of its own that the BBC is fully committed to reporting what happens here. That is why even in the harsher economic times at the BBC it was always a priority to keep our Whitehaven studio in place. |
The Office
Okay ... it might look a touch messy in here, but there's a place for everything and everything in its' place. The Whitehaven studio is always busy as Steph Lloyd is always looking for (and finding) plenty to talk about.
The Studio
This is the studio, where all the reports and interviews are "mixed" or edited prior to broadcast. As you can see, unlike our studios in Barrow and Carlisle, the emphasis is very much on using tape machines for most of the broadcast work. This is where Steph will prepare her interviews for sending "down the line" to the main studios in Carlisle. If you have a story or information for our West Cumbria producer Steph Lloyd, you can call her on our Whitehaven number. As she's often out in the field, please feel free to leave a message on the answering machine.
