Your Community - West Cumbria -Allerdale Overview

Want to know something about the community you live in or what makes it so great? This is the gateway to your community page where you can read what other members of your community have written. See if your community has been listed below yet.

Allerdale is a very diverse district which includes part of the Lake District National Park, superb views across the Solway Firth towards Scotland, the western end of Hadrian's Wall, the rich industrial history of Workington and the Victorian seaside resort of Silloth. With many coastal communities, there are also fishing links. The area is classed as a World Heritage Site due to the Roman military remains discovered, and is a much underestimated part of Cumbria. There are also some curious village name pronunciations which continue to puzzle non-Cumbrians.

This community information page is still in progress - communities will be added as the BBC bus makes its way around the county. If you would like to add an entry, come and visit us on the bus, or e-mail some facts about your community to cumbriabus@bbc.co.uk.
