How we hire

Applying for a new role can be daunting, so we want to make it as transparent and easy as possible. Here’s everything you can expect if you apply.

Overview

We are purpose driven. As one of the most trusted media brands in the world, we deliver world-class creativity and ground breaking content to inform, educate and entertain our audiences.

Mindset matters. We look for positive people who live our values and ensure our culture remains inclusive and full of opportunity.

We value difference. People who are self-aware, enthusiastic and who deliver world-class content and operational excellence.

We look for potential over polish and give you the opportunity to put your transferable strengths and experience to work in different ways.

THE ROLE OF VALUES IN OUR HIRING

Our values

More than just words on a page, our values inform everything we do. They are the DNA of the BBC. Throughout the selection process, we’ll be looking for evidence of how you demonstrate each of them.

What you can expect

Step 1 - Apply

Once you've read the job advert in full, click 'Apply now'. There may be some screening questions as part of the application - these are designed to give us a better idea of whether you have the key criteria and for you to decide if the role is right for you.

Step 2 - Screening

We use various screening methods to ensure we find the best talent for the role. A member of the Talent Acquisition team will review your application against key criteria and support the hiring manager with shortlisting. The process may include assessments, such as online screening tests or situational judgment tests, to evaluate if you meet the key criteria and help you determine if the role is right for you.

Step 3 - Interview

We want to get to know you and your skills, knowledge, experience and strengths. We also want to hear why you think you'd excel in the role and why you're interested in the BBC. You'll be provided with more detail on what to expect.

Step 4 - Assessments

Depending on the role, there may be additional assessment stages. This could be a job-specific exercise or task designed to give you the best chance to show us what you're capable of.

Step 5 - Offer and onboard

If all goes well, the job is yours - we can’t wait to welcome you to the BBC!

Whether your selection process is virtual or face-to-face, we can make adjustments such as providing subtitles over Teams, giving you extra time, or adapting our questions to ensure you have the best possible experience.

Use of AI in the recruitment process

At the BBC, we know that tools like AI can help you prepare, organise your thoughts and feel more confident when applying for a role. But what we're really interested in is you.

We want to hear about your experiences, your skills and what motivates you. The strongest applications are the ones that reflect your own thinking, achievements and perspective. So whilst you're welcome to use AI for support, we encourage you to make sure your application reflects your own voice and tells your story.

When AI can support your application:

  • AI tools can be helpful when used ethically and transparently. For example;
  • Proofreading and grammar checks - Ensuring your writing is clear and professional
  • Formatting your CV or cover letter - Helping with layout, structure, or readability
  • Practicing interview questions - Using AI to rehearse common questions or build confidence
  • Clarifying job descriptions - Asking AI to explain unfamiliar terms or expectations

These uses help you present your best self, not someone else's version of you.

When AI should not be used:

  • We ask you to avoid using AI in ways that mask your true voice or misrepresent your capabilities;
  • Generating cover letters or personal statements
  • Submitting AI written responses to application questions that don’t reflect your own experience
  • Using AI to impersonate your voice in video or audio interviews
  • Relying on AI to fabricate achievements, skills, or qualifications

If we suspect that AI has been used to generate content, it may affect how your application is assessed

What we value most:

We’re looking for people who bring curiosity, integrity, and originality to their work. That starts with how you apply. Use AI to polish, not to pretend. Let your real voice shine through, because that is who we want to work with.
