The 'So Alone' album of 1978 followed on from his New York Dolls and
Heartbreakers period and the recording was a deal sharper. Not that
the sessions were abstemious. Many of the guest musicians were heroin
users and Johnny was tremendously pinned at times. But though the
havoc, he managed the epic pathos of 'You Can't Put Your' Arms Around
A Memory' and a fun version of 'Great Big Kiss'. He sings 'Daddy
Rolling Stone' with Phil Lynott and Steve Marriott - a legion of the
doomed, all set to exit the story.
