What ho! It's a fabulous Friday already. Lots of celebrating going on for Radio 2's and Radio 1's 50th birthday this weekend and Radio 1 Vintage launches as another one of our pop-up stations. It looks a fabulous line up with lots of old favourites in the line up. Kenny Everett, Fluff Freeman, Rosko etc are all there-I get my hour on Monday morning at 8am. Tomorrow I'm on the launch breakfast show with Tony Blackburn, Nick Grimshaw, Sara Cox and Mike Read which is on Radio 1, 2 and Radio 1 Vintage all at the same time.
I don't remember the launch in 67 but was soon a fan. Noel Edmonds was my breakfast show really and Johnnie Walker my earliest favourite DJ. His lunchtime show was a must listen from the school tuck shop. So your ARF starts with a whole bunch of 1967. Apart from all the radio rearrangement, the UK was trying to enter the EEC (whatever happened to that?) The Forsyte Saga is the big TV drama and Jimi Hendrix set fire to his guitar for the first time in Finsbury Park London, then going to hospital for burns to his hands. At the films it's The Graduate, Bonnie and Clyde and The Dirty Dozen and on your transistor ? Pick the fab grooves!
