A Mug’s Game

Lovely sunny Monday here and with pretty much everyone I think, hope your weekend sparkled when needed. I found myself in a queue for a show with a bunch of folk in fancy dress. Actually that’s not quite right. Apparently it’s not fancy dress, it’s ‘cosplay’. Men and women in white coats, extra eyes painted in their foreheads and strange knitted goggles. These were the devoted of an American podcast called 'Welcome To Night Vale’ and the cast have been touring the UK. It’s like Twin Peaks on the radio. I can’t pretend I got all of it, having only heard 2 of the 70 odd episodes, but this is really old fashioned, cult radio that can now find a global audience. I felt out of place wearing, you know, normal clothes but next time, I’m happy to do the cosplay. Maybe we should do cosplay for Edinburgh?

Today we welcome the brilliant Simon Schama and his epic ‘The Face of Britain’. This is a TV show and a vast book telling the story of British portraits. It really is quite a tome, packed full of pictures (obviously) and quite brilliant stories about Churchill, Charles II, Margaret Thatcher and his own collection of cigarette cards. Don’t miss Simon Schama and your role is to do FACE songs please. Only a million to chose from...
