#Specials6Music - help pick the Ultimate Specials Playlist
On Wednesday December 12 The Specials join Steve Lamacq at our world famous Maida Vale studios for a very err…special live session full of festive cheer. To celebrate such a legendary band gracing 6 Music’s airwaves, we thought we thought what better time to ask you to put together the Ultimate Specials Playlist for two hours this Sunday evening?
We don’t have to tell you how important The Specials are – after forming in 1977 their music captured the political & social tensions the early 1980s in a string of brilliant Top 10 singles before their split in 1984.
Their unique style is instantly recognizable and put 2-Tone and ska in the hearts of many a British music fan.
But, for the Ultimate Specials Playlist what do you think we simply must include?
It could be:
* Your favourite Specials tracks, b-side and rarities
* The music that inspired them, from Prince Buster to Toots & The Maytals
* Collaborators and conspirators from The Clash, to Chrissie Hynde, Elvis Costello to Belinda Carlisle
* Terry Hall’s other work, from Fun Boy Three and The Dub Pistols to his perhaps his collaborations with Damon Albarn and Tricky?
* Other pioneers of 2-Tone & ska scene from Madness and The Beat to The Selecter and Bad Manners
* Other iconic Midland musicians – from Ozzy Osbourne to Mike Skinner
You need to tell us what to play so leave a comment on our Facebook page or this blog, Tweet #Specials6Music, send us an e-mailor drag a track onto our Spotify playlist.
And remember, if you’re a Specials fan, tune in on Sunday at 6pm. Pork pie hats optional.

That would be 7 minutes of pure class.

But definitely play Toots and the Maytals - Monkey Man and Prince Buster - Al Capone and my favourite -the theme from the Persuaders which really sends you back to how it was growing up in the seventies.
