#Young6Music - help pick the Ultimate Neil Young Playlist
Neil Young & Crazy Horse’s new record, Americana, is streaming ahead of it’s release on Monday so we thought what better but to celebrate the multi-hit, multi-award winning, multi-talented musician that is Mr Young.
The Canadian has blessed our ears ever since 1968 when he released his self-titled debut album. He’s an iconic figure in music that was influenced in his early career by Bob Dylan and play while he was playing folk clubs with Joni Mitchell before going onto play Glastonbury, put on tribute concerts and write some of the greatest songs in modern music.
Creating the Ultimate Neil Young Playlist may be difficult, but being a 6 Music listener we think you’re up to the challenge…
To give you a bit of a lead, you could choose:
* Your favourite Neil Young tracks, b-sides or rarities
* Something from one of his many bands like Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, or Crazy Horse
* His influences ranging from Bob Dylan to Joni Mitchell, Chuck Berry, Johnny Cash or even Elvis
* Collaborators like Pearl Jam, Emmylou Harris or Bruce Springsteen
* Bands who’ve clearly listened to Young’s work more than once like My Morning Jacket and Mumford and Sons
As always, get in touch with us on our Facebook Page, Tweet #Young6Music, drag a track onto our Spotify playlist or e-mail us with what you want to hear on Sunday from 6pm.

Sugar Mountain, a beautiful acoustic song from the early days. Hardly ever played on the radio...
Change Your Mind, an opus of a song with a sublime chorus, from his 94 album Sleeps with Angels. Terrific.

Id start start with Mr. Soul then either Down By The River or Cowgirl In The Sand which to stretch in at about 10 mins. Ohio, Out on the weekend, Dont be Denied, Revolution Blues, Tonight's The Night. Id also like to hear some stuff from Neils less popular and less successful albums "Wonderin'" with the shocking pinks is great, "Transformer Man" of the much bashed Electro album Trans is very Sweet. Later period Neil also, anything from "Ragged Glory" "Dead Man OST" or "Greendale" would be fantastic. "Change your Mind" from a often overlooked album "Sleeps with Angels" could very well be his best song. As for one of his influences id say Link Wrays instrumental "Rumble" which he admitted was the start of "Grunge" way before he came close to doing it. Chromatics cover of "Hey Hey, My My (Into The Black)" the oppening track of their great recent album "Kill for Love" is fantastic. Really looking forward to the show and hearing some great songs from "Uncle Neil".
Dont be Denied

For me, Tonight's the Night is his most complete piece of work and sounds as fresh as the day I slipped the vinyl onto the turntable . Live, acoustic Cowgirl in the Sand ,Love in Mind, Powderfinger ,too many to mention . Despite misgivings, I kinda like what I've heard of the new stuff, Long may you Run, Neil
