#Chems6Music - pick the Ultimate Chemical Brothers Playlist
What The Chemical Brothers haven’t done in electronic music frankly isn’t worth doing. They’ve had dancefloors across the world jumping in time to Block Rockin’ Beats, they’ve headlined festivals from Glastonbury to Japan, they’ve had number one albums and recently had people dancing in the aisles of cinemas with their film Don’t Think.
So as 6 Music kick of their celebrations of dance culture through April – what better way for Now Playing to celebrate than with a show dedicated to one of Britain’s best products – The Chemical Brothers, 15 years and a day after they released their incredible album Dig Your Own Hole. This record featured Noel Gallgher on track Setting Sun, and also brought Don’t Stop the Rock and The Private Psychedelic Reel into our lives.
Childhood classmates Ed Simons and Tom Rowlands started their production lives as The Dust Brothers after the production duo made famous for their work with The Beastie Boys, before a legal threat and the release of Leave Home gave rise to The Chemical Brothers we know and love.
They’ve gone on to produce some of the most seminal dance records of all time and have developed one of the most pioneering live shows around.
We want your help constructing the Ultimate Chemical Brothers playlist, there’s so much to choose from but you could suggest:
* Your favourite Chemical Brothers tracks from Galvanize to Star Guitar, all the B-Sides and rarities – you put them forward and we’ll try and dig it out.
* Vocalists who have sung on Chemical Brothers tracks like Bernard Sumner, Noel Gallagher, The Magic Numbers or Wayne Coyne.
* Some of the other acts, which helped bring big beat to the masses – Fatboy Slim, The Prodigy, Underworld etc.
* Perhaps some hip-hop which was their first musical love – Tom describes Public Enemy’sYo! Bum Rush the Show as life changing.
* Or some of the new breed of electronic music producers who are trying to follow in their steps like Rustie, Scuba and L-Vis 1990.

The Private Psychedelic Reel - absolutely, absolutely play this. This is their anthem, their epic, their most explosive album closer they've ever made.
In Dust We Trust - all around rocking track from Exit Planet Dust, their first album.
I Think I'm In Love (Vocal Remix) - A remix of the Spiritualized song by the brothers and the best remix they've ever done ever.
The Golden Path - brilliant collab with Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips, from its own Single and both of their compilations.
Swoon/Star Guitar (Live from Japan) - from the new Live album, Don't Think, this would be a blast to hear. Swoon and Star Guitar are both real pleasers.

I think it's a good idea to stay away from their very most popular tracks, such as Do It Again, Galvanize, Block Rockin Beats, Hey Boy Hey Girl, or Believe. Since these songs have already been played on the radio countless times, picking the songs less played would make a memorable, unique show.

The Beatles: Tomorrow Never Knows - A massive inspiration on Setting Sun and The Chemical's sound in general.
New Order: Temptation - An all around great song, and Ed is a massive fan of New Order. They used to use the synth line from this song when they played Star Guitar live.
Primal Scream: Don't Fight It, Feel It - Another classic song that the Chems interpolated into their live sets.
Caribou: Sandy - Very chemical style music, psychedelic and groovy.
Caribou: Sun - Same reasons as above ^
The Chemical Brothers: Elektrobank (Dust Brothers Remix) - A remix of Elektrobank by the very people they nicked their name from: the Original Dust Brothers.
The Chemical Brothers: Leave Home (Underworld Remix 1 or 2) - Fantastic remixes from Underworld
Underworld: Kittens - a great beat-complex track from Underworld, not strictly big beat, but close.
Underworld: Ring Road - almost as GODLIKE as K+D+B.
Fatboy Slim: Everybody Needs a 303 - one of the first big beat classics.
Fatboy Slim: Ya Mama - one of Big Beat's final moments. Samples Block Rockin Beats.
Propellerheads: 360 (with De La Soul) - nice hip hop from two big beat masters.
Propellerheads: Lethal Cut
Orbital: P.E.T.R.O.L. (Final Drop Mix) - new version of P.E.T.R.O.L., which featured along with Chemical Beats on the original Wipeout Soundtrack
Fluke: Atom Bomb
Ariel: Rollercoaster - Track from Tom's old band Ariel, really fun track.
Public Enemy: Miuzi Weighs A Ton - being one of Tom's biggest influences when he first started out.
Leftfield: Inspection (Check One)
Willie Hutch: Brothers Gonna Work It Out - Powerful song, and the intro to The Anti-Nazi Mix, the Brothers Gonna Work It Out mix, and their 1997 live shows.

- Private Psychedelic Reel - probably their masterpiece; the song I want played at my funeral. Music just doesn't come any better than this.
- Freak of the Week - the best tune that relatively few people know about; just cheeky beyond belief, and that DRUM SOLO! BOOM!
- Elektrobank - face-meltingly heavy and uncompromising in every way.
- Get Up On It Like This - when it kicks off, it's probably the biggest drop the chems have ever done. They unleashed their inner mental with this one.
- The Sunshine Underground - the first of their truly 'goose-bump' tunes for me, just such a glorious build up and crescendo.
- Galaxy Bounce - just pure cheeky charm to this one; can't fail to make you smile.
- Star Guitar - I dunno if it was just that amazing video, but more than any other Chems tune I appreciate the layers in this one. So well crafted.
- Denmark - Mad as a box of frogs; the funkiest tune the Chems have ever done, and THAT TRUMPET SOLO!?!?! DAMN!
- The Test - I'm never been a big fan of the Richard Ashcroft, but the vocals on this tune elevate the whole thing up to beautiful moving heights.
- Marvo Ging - Another cheeky number; makes me smile like an idiot without realy knowing why!
- Surface to Air - One of the most straight-up, beautiful, goose-bumpy tunes ever recorded. Utterly glorious in every way.
- Burst Generator - grinding, deep, bleepy, marvellous.
- Battle Scars - For making Willy Nelson relevant again; that last verse where he barely pauses for breath is just magnificent.
-No Need - Can't believe this was a bonus track and not on the main album; it's got that pounding, driving thing that makes your body move without your say-so.
- Fatboy Slim – Song For Shelter (Chems remix) - This tune is balls deep.
