#Numan6Music - Gary Numan live on Now Playing this week
We’re delighted to be able to say Gary Numan will be our first ever virtual guest on Now Playing @6Music, this Friday (September 2).
Gary will be the subject of this week’s themed playlist and during the two hour show from 7pm, him and collaborator Ade Fenton will be reacting live to your suggestions, telling you what they think of your ideas for related tracks and throwing some curve balls in of their own.
But before all that, we need you to help compile the first half of the playlist based around Gary Numan – one of UK music’s pioneers of electronic music and use of synthesisers. Gary himself will then look at all of the tracks sent in and filter them to create the music for the first half of the show.
To give you some starting points:
• Gary Numan and Tubeway Army tracks
• Influences like David Bowie or Marc Bolan
• Contemporaries such as The Human League or Depeche Mode
• Bands who Gary has worked with - Battles or Nine Inch Nails who he performed with at Wembley
• Artists influenced by him – Dave Grohl, Trent Reznor, Beck, Damon Albarn, Queens of the Stone Age, Noel Fielding (?!)
• Artists who’ve sampled his work – Basement Jaxx, Armand van Helden or the, err, Sugarbabes…
Talking about Gary Numan and tracks related to him is like lifting open Pandora’s Box – we want your suggestions and why – be as clever or obvious as you want, as all we require is an awesome selection of music, curated by you and filtered by Gary and Ade themselves! You'll also be able to hear a couple of exclusive tracks from Gary's brand new album 'Dead Son Rising' during the show.
There's no time like the present to get in touch with us – join the discussion on our Facebook page, Tweet us using the #Numan6Music hashtag, e-mail us, or add tracks to our collaborative Spotify playlist.
We are all really looking forward to hearing from you and remember to listen to the results on Friday with Tom Robinson between 7-9pm.

I would love for Gary & Ade to play a track from the William S.Burroughs and Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy's EXCELLENT album "Spare Ass Annie". My favourite track is "Words of Advice for Young People" which can be viewed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-TQW_Fgq0b4
Thanks for your time & good luck with the show.

I seem to remember that in a contemporary interview he said words to the effect that the huge light show was impressive but that the performance was completely devoid of any soul or feeling.

Daman Albarn & Matt Sharp - We Have A Technical?
Gravity Kills - Poetry & Power
Deadsy - Replicas

By the way, the reason why I became a "Numanoid" is because I watched the BBC documentary "Synth Britannia". I did not know about Gary Numan before that, but I am now a big fan, and I love his old as well as his most recent music.

Cannot wait to hear splinter but right now its all about Dead Son Rising! So delighted he was acknowledged with a Mojo award. A Brits lifetime award just has to be any year now surely. It is clear Gary still has drive and passion to create music, just what drives him on to get better and keep striving for something new and exciting? A fan since 1979. Looking forward to several dates on the tour!

I'd also love to hear his thoughts about Terre Thaemlitz' tribute album Replicas Rubato-- I think it's beautiful and is such a love letter to Gary's music. Lastly, my absolute favorite song, "The Joy Circuit," off of my (and many other fans') favorite album, Telekon-- to my ears that was the climax of the sound that brought him to the world.

Numanesque lyrics, Numanesque sound. The Beatles tribute to Numan in 1966!!
