Springwatch highlights: Tues 1st June

Jeremy Torrance web producerJeremy Torrance web producer|14:17 UK time, Thursday, 3 June 2010

Here's the latest in our series of highlights from the show. This time it's Tuesday night's show and it's slo-mo hobbies part 2, the stoat and the baby rabbit, and daylight otters. If you're interested in the otter story, have a read of what Chris has got to say about why he thinks otters are appearing more in the day. Fascinating stuff. And, of course, tell us which bit of the show was your favourite. You can watch Monday night's highlights here.

Aer there going to be any more waterborn wildlife reports from a open canoa/kayak this year?

When we were on holiday in West Wales at the beginning of May just outside Newcastle Emlyn an otter run out in the road straight in front of us, it was quite big I expect it was probably a male just come out of the river as it was still wet. This was about lunchtime - I was so excited, but it disappeared too quickly to get a picture.

Any tips on how to discourage crows and jackdaws from mobbing our bird table? We want to continue to feed and watch small birds (bluetits, bullfinches, robins, blackbirds and sparrows) and we live near farms and moorland so there are plenty of opportunities nearby for the larger birds to find food, but they are nesting in an oak tree in the garden so seem to prefer the bird food we put out. We have tried to put them off by arranging things round the feeders to make them more difficult for large birds to get a foothold, but so far the birds are cleverer than we are!

@Debbie16 that's a good question for the messageboard.
