i hate all these 'new' actors replacing characters, ben's character is awful from the cute camp one previously, lucy beale now looks younger and wearing a wig and just can't do that evil face etc although i do feel lauren branning is good.....

When are producers going to read what is being said about Derek and do something about it ... On all the sites, this, Facebook , digital spy ... So many people are switching off or criticising the programme because of one character ... I have been an avid viewer for 20+ years and have never felt so strongly about a character and so many agree ... It's a shame no one is listening before even more switch off ... They listened to the baby snatch criticism and ended the storyline sooner ... Why can't we get rid of the pantomime dame ... Aka Derek Branning .... Emmerdale has my vote now as best soap and I NEVER thought I would switch allegiance

@Wan3d, really? Loads complaining about him? Why would they do that!? Phil Mitchels done a lot more worse things than Derek yet everyone hates the new guy. I really dont understand why, if the reason is, he's too nasty, I think he's playing his part well, the square needs another hardman, not just Phil Mitchel.

Is it possible for the writers of Eastenders to be told that their new character Derek is not watchable? My partner and I have stopped watching Eastenders now because we found him so annoying. We only ever watched one soap; Eastenders, but dumping Eastenders we have now started watching Coronation Street on ITV instead, it's really good! - I guess we should thank Derek for that lol.

Anyway, please let us know when Derek goes and we'll watch Enders again. Well, providing it doesn't clash with my new love of Corry that is!

CookieCrumble04: Lucy does nasty things to Mandy, but I understand why she does that. Mandy is clearly only after Ian`s cash. She didn`t really want to marry him and Ian wants to arrange the wedding as quickly as possible so that she doesn`t have a chance to change her mind. She cheated on Ian with Ricky, and her plan was to split Ricky and Bianca up (and she managed to do that!), that`s why she told him about her daughter who died. And now she keeps telling Lucy how Ian is wrapped around her little finger, how he spends his money on her and would do anything for her.

I can't understand the dislike for Derek I find him such a real character. His snide comments his brutal way of treating people. It shows that Phil isn't the only Hardman.

I have to say I'm with the "anti-Derek" clan. His eyes are always bulging out of his head, his hair is greased back like some 80's reject, and he does that weird thing with his mouth that i just can't take seriously. I'm not really sure what the point of his character is.

Derek is a vile toad, he is just a one dimensional character,even villains need some redeeming qualities.

Shirley is going to be hearbroken when Heather goes, it'll be good to see her softer side. And no Chryed again, no change there then.

I'm all for bad guys but when characters like Dereck start delivering lines like 'when I say I'll break your legs I actualy mean i will really break them' that's not really the stuff you expect on a family soap, toan it down BBC people are switching off.

I don't think anybody cares about the people who turn off EastEnders because of Derek, as they are obviously not true EE fans! I can see why people would find him annoying though, but he brings interesting storylines to the show. One thing I would say, is that Whitney and Tyler get it together soon because her and Fatboy are dragging on! Also, I hope it works out for Kim and Ray because they're made for eachother :D

I think Ray is amaizng hott! like seriously! i like the way how KIM is playing 'hard to get' , it s better for her to keep it up, than to fall into the cliche and falling for RAY 'straight-away' like whitney. Dereck is verryy annyon but in a goodway, obviously. Hopefully one day I will join the cast!!

People who switch off because of Derek, you ain't true EE fans, at all. Nothing, noone has ever driven me to stop watching Eastenders. I've loved every episode since I started watching it 20 years ago. I think Derek is brilliant. People can have their own opinions though but I just dont get it.

As for Whitney, I used to like the girl, but now shes messing about, and wanting to get with Tyler, messing Fatboy about in the process. She's a hypocrit and I hope she realised she's made a bad mistake.

Derek is not suppose to be a likeable character so if you feel strongly about him and hate him then it means the writers and actor are doing their job. Where are the Masoods?

Derek is so consistently nasty, sneering and manupulating, that quite honestly i just do not find him credible.

I thought it was just me! Derek actually makes me cringe. We finally got rid of the smarmy, disgusting Yusef, I thought it was safe 2 watch again but he has been replaced with an even more disgusting character! I wont be tuning in again until hes gone!

I have just come home from work and couldn't wait to watch Eastenders. But yet AGAIN it was was ruined by that horrid horrid man Derek! It's not even worth watching anymore. He really has brought Eastenders down to the lowest. No wonder Coronation Street won best soap award this year. He needs to leave A.S.A.P. I love Eastenders but can't bare to watch it while Derek is apart of it!!!!!

It's as if the Eastenders Script Writers can't think of how to use any of the other characters so they just keep using Derek again and again. Don't get me wrong, I still love Eastenders but Derek is just wasting way too much air time.

Derick really gets on my nerves!! Where's simon guys, they told us he was coming back and he hasn't been on it since pats funeral! Also Peggy should come back!! @ those who say nasty stuff about Whitney: Well, Whitney and Fatboy have the same problem IMHO. Whitney is very young. So her mind is telling her to be with someone like Fatboy - kind, funny and caring. But her heart keeps on falling for the guys who are not good for her, what she really wants is adventure. Basically, she looks for trouble and she always finds it. And Fatboy is only young, too. And he wants adventure as well - that`s why he falls for the girls who don`t really care about him. But I am sure, when he is a bit older and tired of all that heartbreak, he will find a nice girl who he loves and who loves him back.

I think that the reason that myself as well as a lot of others dislike the whole Derek malarkey is because he is the most unbelievable "baddie" ever, he is a nobody, I mean the state he was in after beating Michael moon up, I was expecting Michael to be half dead, if not at least hospitalised. It makes me cringe to watch Derek and his bravado, Shirley is more intimidating.I'm more of an eastenders girl however I watch for entertainment and at the moment I'm not entertained, corrie on the other hand is fab

I love Derek's evil nature but it's the way it gets mixed with him thinking he's doing good but in reality he knows how evil he is. Whitney needs to make her choice. When Whitney leaves Fatboy, which is what I bet will happen. She'll crawl to Tyler who'll take her back and Fatboy will be alone again. He should get with Lauren. Be her savior

I just love Derek - a real character. To me he's Del Boy with attitude - just brilliant! Be very sorry to see him go and would be good to have Branning v. Mitchel story line.

I have been a massive fan since i was very small :) , but i have to agree with most of these comments !! there appear to be no REAL characters now a days , its far to dramatic and to slow paced , im starting to enjoy other soaps more !!! come on eastenders !!! start doing less boring dragged out story lines and make them more fast paced !!!

Please Please get rid of Derek Branning he is an awful addition to Eastenders, I have been a fan through good and bad stories but he really makes me switch off, sorry I just don't like his acting at all. This seems to be a common theme on this comment page so please listen before you lose all your watchers.
