There can be little doubt the role of controller of BBC Radio 4 involves far more than simply running a radio network. You are in charge of one of the UK's most-loved institutions; an institution which people care passionately about.
A year after taking over as controller, Gwyneth Williams spoke to the Telegraph radio critic Gillian Reynolds about the challenges, pitfalls and expectations of 'Guarding Radio's Sacred Flame'.
She was speaking at a BBC College of Journalism and Media Society event in the Council Chamber at BBC Broadcasting House. The evening was introduced by Greg Neale of the Media Society.
Paul Murphy has written a report on the event on the BBC Radio 4 Blog.
