On 9 November 1989 the border separating West from East Germany was effectively opened, an event that became the symbol of the end of the Cold War.
For nearly three decades the Berlin Wall had kept East and West Berliners apart. But at midnight, East Germany's Communist rulers gave permission for its gates to be opened after hundreds of people converged on crossing points.
On the 20th anniversary, journalists who were in Berlin that night were at the Frontline Club to discuss their experiences and the impact of such momentous events since then.
