I read a few non-spoiler reviews online about this episode before it aired, which commented on the fact that Michaela's character was played too over the top.



Unfortunately (for me) I went to school and university with *a lot* of girls (and some guys) exactly like her. Still friends with some of them now. So they got her pretty much perfect in my mind ;)

Well, Kirby (assuming that's him who just barged through some smiling old woman's door) is a 70s ghost so not Nina's ex. Maybe a Gatekeeper? Why do I get the feeling that both he and Hal will have burnt arms? (Have we seen Hal's arm?)

This proves that Kemp and Mr Roe could come back one day - though Kemp would be confused by the lineup change long enough for Tom to bash him.

I wonder why Michaela's hair stuck up like that? And why they left the knife in the bannister? Loved the little electricity crackles as she tried to get her eyes working. And I think Hal broke the record for longest vampire snarl!

I'm not sure if anyone will agree with me, though it doesn't matter if they don't, but I think this was the funniest episode yet, especially because of the Tom & Hal scenes. Plus, I really loved Annie's character branching out- she really makes a wonderful motherly figure. One of my favourite episodes, if not the favourite. I look forward to the rest of the series. Well done to all.



I just hope strong competition from the other channels hasn't affected it's outreach. A very over saturated night of brilliant television. Sunday night is the place to be.

A final note - Hal: Funny, smart, 21st century naive, adaptable, and Terrifying - all at the same time. Turning into an amazing character and incredible portrayal. Very much looking forward to seeing just who Lord Hal is, what is his history, and which side he'll be on when the rest of the OOs arrive....will be Greet them, or fight them? nice Freudian slip....

Everyone else too, there was so much fun and spark. I thought last nights episode was great! Plenty of laughs, just enough suspense and action and a nod to our friends (gone but not forgotten).



Oh and that sneering little twerp Fergus was swiftly dealt with, by Lord Hal.



Now that we have two Lords to deal with, Lord Hal and the original and best Lord Toby, perhaps it's time to promote LT to Sir Toby!



And then we have Kirby, who seems too slippery to be true. Just as Tom and Hal are starting to get along it looks like he's thrown a spanner in the works.



Surely Nina wouldn't inflict him upon Annie? We'll need to wait and see his real intentions.



Oh and one last thought, the door the Woman from the future uses is the door to HH. I already thought it was but last night confirmed it for me. The letterbox is in the same place and looking back at eps 1&2, there's a sticker on the door which is there when Tom sneaks in on ep 2. The same sticker is there on the bottom left of future womans door.



Which can mean only one thing: The future Woman is Eve!!!!

I really loved this episode, it was funny and brilliant and the scenes with Tom and Hal were hilarious, especially when they showed off their best pick up lines and when they were both discusted by the magazine and Hal had to use his glove to pick it up. I was alittle worried about Annie because she's really struggling with the loss of Nina, George and Mitchell but I think she's ok now because she's got her boys.

29 - Get the DVD of S3 if you don't already have it, vampsrule. Tom is there in the deleted scenes. I think it's become known as *Tom's Shower Scene* and he's more than shirtless. Phwooaaar! :-)

Bigbad dog @26, perhaps Lord hal should be the one knighted...cos he had a horse and a sword and a shield, a red one! That scene definitely set me giggling. I am so impressed with MS and DM, I love how direct and just honest Tom is and it's the perfect foil for all of Hal's tightly buttoned secrets and complicated backstory. And can someone tell me how DM can play Hal as vulnerable, dangerous, irritating yet strangely sweet, all at the same time, and believably too. My one fear about DM is that he's too good and if we're not careful we could lose our vamp again!



Oh and sorry I missed some of the blog for ep 1 and my steam age Sky+ box ate the episode, but did Fergus or the chief inspector say something to Cutler like; 'they won't care who your dad was'? And if that was said and I didn't completely imagine it, does anyone want to speculate on who or what Cutler's dad might be? Forgive me if it's already been discussed at length. I'm a bit slow on the blogging etiquette.

Cutler’s dad is an interesting one – Hetty has form for creating baddies. Although maybe it’s Hal? That could be fun! We don’t know how old he is yet – or do we? (did I miss it?)



I missed Cutler this week – I needed a dose of his special brand of sarcasm to get me through the week! He’d better be back next week...

Well, absolutely loved last night's episode, will need to do a re-watch. Really liked the glimpse of Regus' house (reminded me of so many people I met in house shares!) The characters are all so beautifully drawn and Regus' collection of t-shirts cracked me up (Team Edward!). And of course, Hal.

Are we still expecting to meet Cutler's wife (or have I made it up that there will be a new female character with Cutler as a surname???)?

Re Cutler's maker. Griffin definitely says 'he's gone now' so I don't think it'll be Hetty. But Hal - now that would be interesting. I think it's more likely to be Wyndham - an OO who has recently *gone*. Cutler could be his heir and then bring him back for S5?

Hi Sasha - I'm inclined to think it's Wyndham. I think Cutler is relatively new vamp who is tolerated because of his maker. But he does seem a modern boy with his focus groups and social networking. So, tho' it could be Hal - perhaps the last person he turned? - I tend to think it's Wyndham. The story would be great if it were Hal though, and might explain some of Cutler's attitude. If it's Wyndham, Cutler was orphaned but if it's Hal, he was abandoned.

I´m new to the Blog, but I have been a silent reader for a while now.



I think it is interesting how often Hal is connected with eastern Europe. In the Prequel he said he fought in the battle of Orsha. In the flashback we are in the year 1855 and Fergus said, the war have messed things up. We´ve also learned from him, that they are on leave. So it might be possible, that he and Hal are soldiers who fought in the crimean war.

Hal also says that peasants have been flayed for looking funny at him. That reminded me on serfdom, which existed in Eastern Europe and Central Europe till the 19th century, while it ended in England in 1574.



So he might have lived in Eastern Europe for a long time.

I also asked myself, why he is called Lord? Does it refer to his role with the old ones. Mitchell has never called Ivan Lord although he was an old one. Or does it refer only to the relation between Fergus and Hal, because Fergus is the only one calling Hal Lord. Or does it refer to a position Hal held in the human world? Vampires can be police officers, so it might be possible that they were Lords in earlier centuries. May be in Eastern Europe?

49 - Hi Sea. I agree with you - Hal is too *modern* I think he's relatively *new* so it'll be either Wynham or Mitchell. Herrick was about out there as far as the OOs were concerned, wasn't he? Mitchell was the poster boy and Wyndham was an OO. So my cupcakes would go on Mitchell or Wyndham.

Aside of being born in a brothel where 6 ladies of scantily clad virtue lived- yes Mods, I am being good, 6 ladies, Henry VIII had six wives and hal is called Henry

but since Henry Bolingbroke, the name has been quite fashionable. But I draw the line at becoming Lord Hal as in human. The era was fraught with casts. Not knowing who your mother was , was bad. Not knowing who your father was, was worse. One of my ancestors in the ealy 18th had only his father mentioned. Whilst doing the family tree some 200ys later, his direct descendant learnt that it meant our female ancestress was bound either to have been a maid as 'unmarried' or worse, 'married to someone else'. A boy could make do if Dad was there. Dad was a lot less likely to be there if it was a girl. My ancestor was a boy...

Eastern Europe history is very complicated and add to the fact the Ottoman Empire was a player. well, I suppose if you killed a few Janissaries , you might be given an equirry then climg up socially while having removed more Turks along the way or Tatars or Turcomans. Ivan Grozny was not exactly very 'nice' but he certainly unified Russia... If we have to give Hal a back history, we must not forget the absence of mirrors.

Transylvania in the 16th, 17th century must not have been loaded with mirrors.

Then the war? which war 1812? 1855 and the Charge of the light brigade might have allowed Hal and Fergus to resume contact with the Western chapters?

Lord Hal - could be a reference to who he was, trying to distance himself from his past he might put on airs as if to hide from his lowly origins.



The fact when he 'dies' he is so far away from that small brothel of his birth. He is who he made himself after all he is dying at the time due to a lance and being treated by a surgeon and not left to die on the battle field might suggest that he had a place of importance.



He made himself a Lord, as Herrick made himself more than a Clerk. Now the adult vampires with shorter names Edgar, Ivan, Jacob etc. Could have come from a high place in the world before their recruitment.

My poorly turned sentence meant that HENRY, as first name was very tudorish. Hal died in 1514 , was 25? hence born in 1489.

Remember the poster? WE ARE HUMAN. I'm even more convinced that they are about a future alliance between humans and werewolves (and maybe ghosts, who knows). When she dies the guy who killed her could see her. So either she's a very clever ghost from the get go, or he's a supernatural?



This is the very thing that Cutler is working towards destroying any possibility of happening...he wants to show werewolves as the "something worse".

aethelbehrt may be known in 2012 as 'Al' because it evolved into Albert. Plus so far, we have only met 'WASP' vampires as leading roles. The Pilot Herrick had more international flavour.

Henry has been a name used in British royalty since way before Henry Tudor. Henry I was the son of William the Conqueror. His son was the husband of Eleanor of Aquitaine so it goes back to the 11th, 12th Century.



Harry/Hal is a family name of the Percy family (Earls and Dukes of Northumberland), the most famous being Harry Hotspur and his father was known as Hal. Through them Henry Bolingbroke became Henry IV over Richard II (who was overthrown) so a common name.



Ewan: i could buy the theory that the 'Lord' moniker is kind of a thumbed nose to his less than humble origins, as he wouldn't have the title outright unless he was of noble blood or married noble blood (thinking outloud here)



I had the thought about Cutler being Jacob Cutler...would be quite interesting given we know nothing about him apart from his surname and that he's annoying and curious about werewolves. If that were indeed the case, perhaps the only vampire who could identify him as such would be Hal himself given the rest are dead or elsewhere.

In the 1855 opening Fergus refers to the Old Ones who are scared of Hal. Ivan, Wyndmn Jacob even Hettie Not Mr Snow though.

61. I don't think so, as Ewan has mentioned, the 'Mr Snow' is the Old One on his way on the ship. Don't know Hal's surname just yet.



Another thought as to how Hal could've become 'Lord' and that is to be adopted by a member of the nobility either legally or informally or he just lied about his beginnings in life and only ever told Leo the truth.

Not sure I buy into the Hal as Henry Tudor, but it's an interesting thought. Another tangent would come from the fact that it was the custom then to name your illegitimate sons after your legitimate ones. I suppose if we really stretched the story, we could imagine he was an illegitimate Tudor son fathered on the (how should I say this) concubines and later claimed by his father? But it is a bit of a reach. Plus I have to say I don't really like it when vamps turn out to be famous people from the past, I prefer it when they're famous within the story's own mythology. And Hal was a fairly common abbreviation of Henry or Harry at that time. In fact in 'Henry V', Henry is referred to as Hal, Henry and Harry.

Lord Hal? You have to remember that it was not given to everybody to own a shield

In the dark ages, warriors would carry shields; certainly legionnaries had shields, but later on when the army recruitment stopped being 'uniformized', shields became personal, like an escutcheon and family badge. Only an equerry and above could have a shield.. plus the cost of a shield. I quote.

Being adopted and being a child of illegitimate origin could only end up with you missing the requisite quarters of nobility

and having aristocratic family up to both sides of your great grandparents was a pass or fail in these days

I can imagine Hal getting some advancement during wars and being mercenary like well all those condottieri who raised from being illegitimate sons to being dukes etc

Hello! I think Henry/Harry/Hal was a very popular name (the name of the king was always a popular choice for boys during their reign). I did some family history research a while ago and the family tree is literally full of William and George (Georgian/regency/William IV) period.

I suppose Hal could have acquired the title of 'Lord' through nefarious means (I'm thinking here along the lines of dining on a 'real' lord and then taking possession of the title, lands, etc (a bit like in the original version of Puss in boots!).

Thanks for the info on Rachel Cutler, didn't realise that she was Cutler's sister. Definitely looking forward to more Cutler and his sarcasm. A little pop culture reference, in the first episode when Cutler asked if they had enough crossbows and catapults, this is actually the name of a boardgame...

The more I think about the Lord thing, the more I think it might just be a Vampire heirarchy thing, in some of the articles Mr Snow has been called the 'Vampire King'. They might have their own aristocracy, purer bloodlines in terms of who is turned by whom. Perhaps. Maybe. I think I need sleep now. Just worked the graveyard shift myself.

Hello all!



Have now seen E3 and I liked most of it. Annie is good doing something other than trying to get a laugh from the audience. She still was funny when needed but she had a real purpose.



I did love Regus with her in the tent. Dirty old man got what he rightly deserved. Was surprised that Annie's first time was in the woods though....

She was good with Fergus and loved her making her second kill with such precision after she disarmed the vampire. That's the Annie I like. Multi-dimensions are much more entertaining. Anything else makes her well...Michela.



I really really really really didn't like her AT ALL. Not one thing about her appealed to me. I did like the bit about her dying. That was short lived as she apparently lives on forever... Just my opinion which I am happy to own by myself. Not trying to recruit anyone to dislike her.



I do like Hal. I loved him telling Tom to kill him as he was staring at the grill. I can imagine having the very same reaction and being just as OCD about sanitation. Tom asking if he was counting the rubbish was a really good line too. So many things I found funny in last night's episode... None of them were Michela.



The hoovering made me sad. I hate to think that Mitchell was just hoovered up like that. so unceremoniously. I like to think they got a new bag just for his ashes, and it's in a nicely sewn satchel with his initials on it...



It is good that Hal and Tom found their own show to watch. I figured Tom to be a fan of some sort of sport though.



All in all I would say a good episode for me.

Loved the ep last night, it was brilliant! I was in stitches all the way through the ep, especially with Hals speech which ended in 'i had a shield...a red one' and the seen with Annie and Regus in the tent. DM and MS bromance is just brilliant!



THERE WAS ANOTHER SUPERMAN REFERENCE IN THE EP! It cant be a coinsidence, theres been superman references in all 3 eps of this series.



Loving the conversation about our Lord Harry. I think that the Vampire 'royal family' (OO) so Mr Snow is our 'King Vampire'. Hal could be a Lord, like in our royal family there Lords and Ladies, maybe Mr Snow anoints OOs as Lords

Also loved seeing a topless Hal, Damien had tweeted just before the show saying that he was showing a bit of flesh and that he regreted all the 'early morning fry ups' hahaha. I dont think that he needed to worry about that. The only criticism I have about that scene was that DM moustache was slightly wonky on the right side. Apart from that I loved it! I hope to see more of 'evil' Hal

I agree with you. The most probable possibility for Hal gaining a title is by achievements in war. It must be much easier, when you actually can´t die. Another opportunity might be that there was already a noble vampire who helped other vampires gaining titles.

Hello all, hope you all enjoyed the episode (I know I did!)

I think the title lord Hal could be referring to a position he had in the OOs so perhaps he had more power than some of the other OOs which could explain why some of them were scared of him. Mr Snow could also hold a position of high power hence he was not scared of him. Just a thought and probably way off as usual.

Loved the episode last night. Tom made me laugh so much trying to chat up Michaela and I'm really starting to love Hal. Next Sunday can't come quick enough!

I don't think that the title 'Lord Hal' was something that he had when he was alive because he said in his prequel that he was born in a brothel which would not give him very much social standing. I think it is a title that he has earned since he was recruited, perhaps something he demanded of the others, he did seem to like the attention when he was talking about his horse and sword and shield.
