It was one of the hardest choices Mitchell ever had to make... let Bernie die as a human, or bring him back eternally as a vampire? In the latest in our series of director's commentaries, Alex Pillai talks us through the scene that had everyone biting their nails...

This was my favourite story line. I hope they follow it up but even so it's very dark and interesting just left to our imagination.

I really loved that scene but as a mum, I didn't see that Fleur was repulsed by Bernie. I thought she looked a little afraid of him...but not repulsed (only Vampfan telling the Director he is wrong!!) LOL.
Changing the location to Temple Meads was a good move because what made that scene for me was the gloomy, stark light. It made everything seem so cold and depressing...maybe a reflection on Fleur and Bernie's future?.
Anyway, once again thanks. And Alex, feel free to get in touch if you need any further advise.

Mitchell's decision to 'convert' Bernie has to be decidedly questionable, we know via other episodes that Mitchell knows the almost inevitable negative changes that Bernie will undergo, (I'd not like to give odd's on his Mum's life expectancy), indeed in an earlier episode he lets a vampire victim die for that exact reason.
Not to mention he's condemned Bernie to an eternity as a young adolescent, (surely the most miserable age to be stuck in).
Also, what was the journey Bernie had between the mortuary slab and the station? Does that mean he was picked up by Seth, woke up in the Vampire funeral home and delivered to the station by them?
Seems likely he'd be on the Vampire radar from the start in that case!
Surely this is a plotline that need to revisited at some point!

More so, after Bernie's transformation and he mentions that he's hungry... That raised a lot of questions for me, as the only outcome is for Bernie's Mum to either feed her son with her blood, or for her to do the hunting for Bernie herself... even worse is when Bernie decides to hunt on his own.
It would be nice to have the scriptwriters or director explore the lives of Bernie and his Mum after the Train Station scene... Will Bernie be tutored by a vampire other than Mitchell?... or will Bernie eventually return to his roots?
