  1. FESTIVAL #1

had one of those horrible mornings where you get on the train, it breaks down, then you get on the bus, it stops after 2 stops, you get in a cab and it sits in traffic for 20 mins to get to somewhere it should take 5 mins. I eventually get to work too late for my meeting. Not a good start to a Thursday.

Since then I've met with the photographer for the CD compilation who wants to try the underwater shot. All we need to find is someone with an outdoor swimming pool, and we're ready to go! woo hoo!

Am just about to go on air for another 4 hour special and then I head to coachella in Palm springs tomorrow morning. I'm going to take as many photos as i can and post them all on tuesday when i get back.

Tonight's show should be the bomb. we have another ridiculously amazing listener minimix and really exciting new stuff to play you..

Tricks and Craig am very glad you're liking Huw and myself doing Zane's show...Thursday night's mixtape is gonna be a clash of the Celtic tigers, WALES V IRELAND. All the best music to come out of both countries over an hour and a half. I'm really struggling to find some irish hip hop...

Tonight we've got Sigor Ros in session throughout the show, it should be very special.

On Friday morning I'm off to Palm springs, California to the Coachella Festival. The line up is incredible, Daft Punk and Massive Attack on the dance stage with Madonna doing a live P.A just before Massive Attack come on. It's her first festival. There's also every band you can think of from Tool to Gnarls Barkely. I'm going to take loads of photos and tell you all about it amidst the bleary eyed jetlag next week.

Right then! what festivals are you all going to? I want to go to as many as I physically can this summer. So far the list is as follows,

    Coachella,
    Run To The Sun
Wireless @ Hyde Park..have you seen the line up for the sunday? dj shadow, massive attack, gnarls?
    Celtronic in Derry
    Oxygen in Ireland
    Global Gathering
    Creamfields
    Reading/Leeds
    Bestival

I reckon there's easily more I could go to ... I need inspiration!

just finished show with Huw..was wicked show tonight..

today I saw loads of famous people while cycling into work..first of that russian artist boyfriend of sarah jessica parker in sex in the city, then, THE FONZ! driving a red car and then Ricky Gervais walking down oxford st.

It's been a hectic day...have decied not to worry about CD cover anymore and let inspiration come to me. Thanks for all your suggestions...

listened to loads more tunes today..Christopher and Raphael Just's POPPER is still the tune of the moment for me..it is party music personified......happy and out of control..... got to get on my bike..

Can't bloody sleep due to album covers going round my head. Latest notion is an underwater shot...god knows how I'd do that. thank you for your ideas...my favourite one so far is the Brazil one..

Rachel and I spent a frazzled afternoon going through new music...some really good stuff. Namely a new Solid Groove track with a chorus of 'Shake That Ass!!!!'. Genius. Can't wait to play it out. And on Thursday of course.

Have been humming the new Cajmere single 'Say You Will' all day also which is a good sign.

  1. weekend

Monday morning...after the first weekend in a long time of no Djing. It was a lovely weekend, spent pottering around the house and sleeping and doing domestic pleasures like doing a massive food shop at midnight on Friday in our local supermarket which has just gone 24 hour.

So congratulations to Zane lowe who is the proud Father of a little boy called Jackson Lowe. This week I am doing Zane's show with Huw Stephens. Huw got his job as DJ on Radio 1 when he was a mere 18 years old. Eighteen , imagine that! and is flying the flag for One Music these days..together we have a great time doing Zane's show, there's always very bad singing and silly dancing involved..

I spent most of last night thinking about the cover for my first compilation. I am putting together a double Cd of music for release in the Summer. Getting the right tunes is hard enough but my goodness, the cover is doing my head in. I mean, this is something I will look at for the rest of my life. I want it to be original, and edgy (like the music) and to have a bit of humour to it aswell. I've had some photos taken and they are nice but maybe abit too nice. My friend saw them and compared them to a Corinne Bailey Rae CD cover. Nice but insipid. Another friend reckons I should superimpose my face onto a picture of an old smashey and nicey radio DJ. I think I like that but am not sure.. I need ideas for a cover! please help!

  1. Hello!

    • Producer Rachel
    • 21 Apr 06, 02:40 PM

I've worked on the Annie Mac show since it launched in July 2004 and I love it! We play a great range of dance music which really suits me because I love everything from deep house to heavy dnb. We also have a laugh every week without fail in the studio and dance around like loons. We actually sometimes try and out-do each other with bad dance moves which isn't really the epitome of cool but never mind. Only problem is that when we go out raving after the show (only happens every so often, we're well-behaved, mostly) we continue the very bad dance moves in public before remembering that everyone else doesn't really get what we're doing - can be very embarassing...

What is also brilliant is hearing from people listening to the show either on email or text or on this lovely spanking new blog which looks great! Cheers for all your comments so far.

Loved last nights show - thought the Cyantific mini mix was great - a mash up of old skool hardcore and dnb. And what can I say about Stu Boy Roy's mix at the end?! Superb. I've dropped him a mail and waiting to hear back from him. If anyone knows the good man - then let us know! He deserves a mighty big up.

Next week Tim Deluxe in the mini mix - plus another of yours! Can the Stu Boy Roy be bettered....??

  1. THE SEARCH FOR STU BOY ROY

ah the magical powers of sleep. I feel like a new woman, and I am just coming to terms with how amazing this blog is.

so far from your input I have concluded 2 things.

    1) You all fancy producer Rachel.

    2) Last night's Stu Boy Roy minimix was off the hook.

If you haven't heard it yet, listen through to the show again and it's at the very end. It was a mish mash of hip hop with the odd D&B tune thrown in for good measure and it was done brilliantly. Some of you have mentioned similarities to Yoda's minimix, I think it's quite like Aussie breakbeat producer Friendly's or Krafty Kuts and A Skills. We received a black CD with Stu Buy Roy written on it and an e-mail. Rachel has mailed him today to find out who he is. Rach have you heard anything back?

just finished the 4 hour radio marathon...felt slightly delirious at the end, to the point of when I said who was coming up on Radio 1 later, I said 'coming up at 1am Annie Mac! ' instead of Annie Nightingale. I need sleep. How good was that Stu Boy Roy minimix? more tomorrow.....

  1. Hello and welcome...

    annieslopes.jpg

Hello there, welcome to my all new BBC blog..am very chuffed to be able to keep you up to date with all my goings on and to share thoughts on all things music...

I kicked off the month at the Snowbombing festival in Mayrhofen in Austria. This involves flying a few thousand energetic clubbers to the slopes for a week of 'piste by day, beats by night'. The idea is that you spend all day snowboarding or skiing and all night raving. I went with Rachel, who produces my radio show, (see photos) and DJed on the Sunday night with DJ Touche. I ended up playing drum and bass for most of the set and really enjoyed it. The rest of the week was spent eating, partying and 'lift gliding'. This is the new sport we made up to do instead of boarding. It involves navigating yourself across the mountain range on the lifts, and stopping at each bar/restaurant for a beer. We got some strange looks from people, with our jeans and our handbags but it was worth it for the breathtaking scenery..Check out last week's One World to sample some of the musical highlights from the snowbombing festival.

This week I've been listening to mountains of music and I did Zane Lowes show for him on tuesday. I'll be covering for him tonight aswell which means its a 4 hour Thursday extravaganza for me! We have new music tonight from Gnarls Barkely, Klute, Juan Maclean, The Knife, Tiga and Soul Of Man and a minimix from rising D&B star Cyantific. Am also going to play my biggest tune of the moment, Christopher and Raphel Just's - Popper on Kitsune. It's the new Alter Ego 'Rocker' but I think it might be better. Controversial!

Drop a comment and let me know what tunes you're feeling....
