weekend

Monday morning...after the first weekend in a long time of no Djing. It was a lovely weekend, spent pottering around the house and sleeping and doing domestic pleasures like doing a massive food shop at midnight on Friday in our local supermarket which has just gone 24 hour.

So congratulations to Zane lowe who is the proud Father of a little boy called Jackson Lowe. This week I am doing Zane's show with Huw Stephens. Huw got his job as DJ on Radio 1 when he was a mere 18 years old. Eighteen , imagine that! and is flying the flag for One Music these days..together we have a great time doing Zane's show, there's always very bad singing and silly dancing involved..

I spent most of last night thinking about the cover for my first compilation. I am putting together a double Cd of music for release in the Summer. Getting the right tunes is hard enough but my goodness, the cover is doing my head in. I mean, this is something I will look at for the rest of my life. I want it to be original, and edgy (like the music) and to have a bit of humour to it aswell. I've had some photos taken and they are nice but maybe abit too nice. My friend saw them and compared them to a Corinne Bailey Rae CD cover. Nice but insipid. Another friend reckons I should superimpose my face onto a picture of an old smashey and nicey radio DJ. I think I like that but am not sure.. I need ideas for a cover! please help!

    Hi Annie
    YOur blog is ace!!!

What's the CD going to be called? What's your fav ever album cover?

I loved what Morrissey did with the Smiths covers... none of the band ever appeared on the font. Morrisey instead chose lesser known actors (Charles Hawtrey, Terence Stamp, Yootha Joyce...) which then gave them cult status and gave all their albums a real feeling of being part of a collection. It also makes them collectable...which is ace. Whilst it wouldn't work for your CD its great looking back at your artwork as part of a collection rather than a series of 1 off designs.

I really like the flyers Circus do. Really edgy and captures the underground nature of the music without looking dull (which underground club flyers can do sometimes).

Now then Annie, looking forward to your cd this summer.

For album covers, I personally like minimal graphics stuff like Soulwax 'Nite Versions'; mind you that gives you a headache if you look at it for too long! How about a see through sleeve with loads of cool graphics printed on acetate, has anyone done that before?
Maybe, if you just want to sell a shed-load of albums, super-impose your face onto the Crazy Frog (complete with the rude bits!)it'll go to no.1 in no time at all! ;)

PS. I'm loving Coburn 'We Interrupt This Program' (Stanton Warriors Remix) at the moment. It makes my speakers go beserk and I always end up dancing around in my room with a really stupid face on!
