Hello there, and how the Dickens are you right now?
Doing really great at the moment. Just had an amazing day in Barcelona yesterday and got all wild with some local folks (actually some from Scotland and Mexico). Was really cool and also my first time in Spain (they call it Catalonia and don't like you sayin "Spain"). Also spent last week in Germany with all the snow - the most punk rock of all countries for certain. Yea.

Barry Lynn is currently buried away in Lurgan putting the finishing touches to the third Boxcutter for Planet Mu, we've heard a few bits off it already which are suitably marvellous. Meanwhile Space Dimension Controller is attending this year's Red Bull Music Academy in London as the Northern Ireland representative in between forthcoming releases on Clone Records and Kyle Halls' Wild Oats Recordings and gigs lined up at Twisted Pepper and a Sonar showcase at the Roundhouse in London.

Ok, so the ATL autobot is, as ever, hungry for answers. Our voracious online brain managed to hack into the brains of Dublin based band Bats, who play the Big List Big Gig on Feb 26th in the Spring and Airbrake, Belfast. Connor from the band was the unlucky soul who had his mind phished for your pleasure. Here is the virtual exchange in word form.
Hello there, and how the Dickens are you right now?
A little cold but pretty good.
Why the heck should we give a stuff about your band then ;) ?
We're completely disease free and we'll stick around to make breakfast in the morning.

Another week... another SuggestiON-AIR! That's when we get you guys to suggest stuff for us to say on air. Radio gold!
This week, we're looking forward to the impending festival announcements and thinking about who, in a perfect world, we'd like to be on the bill for Oxegen, Electric Picnic or Belsonic.
Rigsy's already had a go at predicting said line ups, but we want you guys to think about one act or DJ you absolutely love but have never managed to see live.

Yeasayer are in town, which means half the music scene of Belfast are about to descend on the Speakeasy in Belfast. ATL caught up with them earlier to find out all according to the New York experimental band...

Hello there, and how the Dickens are you right now?
Very tired.
So what are we to expect at your gig at the Speakeasy in Belfast then?
Hopefully... total chaos. Dublin was a great crowd last night so hopefully Belfast can match that energy.

On the Dance Show this week we had some awesome new music from Christian Smith's new album 'Director's Cut' on Tronic, some Robert Babicz and Danny Howells and as well as a little taster from the brand new Gil Scott Heron album. Mr Scruff was in delivering his Criminal Record and we featured a guest mix from rising local techno producer Mark Rogan. Here are the tunes that did the damage...

Even though festival season seems ages away, the line ups for Glasto, Bestival and the Isle of Wight have already been at least partially revealed and the first wave of bands playing Oxegen is expected to be officially confirmed next Tuesday with the Electric Picnic line up following on March 24.
Given it's freezing outside, not much is happening gig wise and things are generally a bit dull at the moment, we thought it'd be fun to start speculating who may end up among the headliners at Oxegen, Electric Picnic, Slane and Belsonic. Something to look forward to, you know?

Only two months in to 2010 and this year is already looking like there's some serious electronic activity being exported from Ireland with Irish producers slotting in to the production schedules of some of the world's finest labels. Started by filmmaker Richard Davis in 2006, Heliopause have truly come into their own over the last few months. After settling as a three piece, including stalwarts of the Belfast music scene Chris McCorry and Niall Harden, the band released the single 'Moment of Recognition' (newly mastered version below) last year. This was quickly followed by a new three track EP 'Let The Silence Go' which has seen them sounding better than ever.
Currently residing in Brighton, Richard is back in Belfast this Thursday (18th Feb) as Heliopause are set to open this month's Two Step Club night at the Limelight. Rigsy caught up with him for a chat to tell us all from the Heliopause camp before the gig with Before Machines and Continuous Battle of Order...

Another week... and another look into the strange world of music obsessive freaks. That'd be us! Since we're risking their well being to share with you, how about you reciprocate?
Have you a signed shirt framed? A bit of half eaten toast from your favourite crooner? A sweaty towel from a past legend sealed for its essence? Let it all out.

Keeping with the beard theme (last time, Rigsy chatted to a notoriously hairy Kowalski), this week's Chattering Classes is with Paul, lead singer with Cutaways and the man with the most unpredictable facial hair in rock 'n' roll.
It's been a quiet enough few months for the three-piece after a hectic 2009, which saw a wonder debut album released, shows in North America and a number of memorable gigs in their hometown of Belfast. But as Hugo would say, they're like the man with the wheelbarrow - it's all in front of them...

Back around October last year, I found a version of Talking Heads 'Warning Sign' floating about the world of music blogs. Repeat listening was an involuntary reaction and a quick google led me to find more from the LA based Local Natives.
The rhythmical drive of this band mixed with the floating harmonies brings to mind a mixture of Vampire Weekend and Grizzly Bear. But that's not to say this band hasn't developed a distinctive sound of its own. Like their new single 'Airplanes', they easily move from rather poppy melodies into a mood of desperation. But overall, their debut album, 'Gorilla Manor' is incredibly uplifting.

After a little chat in the office, and some soul searching, we're sharing our memories, our troubled pasts and our obsessive natures in confiding about the first Irish or Northern Irish band we were engrossed in. Those that changed our musical paths (and more) and hail from this very isle!
So, have a think back to the first Irish band you were infatuated with and share via twitter, email or text (81771 once we get on air at 8pm)! Once on air, we'll be seeing which band comes up tops for stalkerish fans!
As for Team ATL, then...

Phantogram's single Mouthful of Diamonds had me three seconds in - all it took was the strange synth flare being released into the soundscape. The opening track of the New York based girl/boy duos debut album sets the tone for what is a mood record. However, while the tone may be set, the genre for the rest of the record certainly isn't. Trip hop, hip hop, indie rock, dance, pop... there's a bit of everything in the album Eyelid Movies. But each track is wrapped up in beautiful electronic warmth that ties the album together as a coherent collection of songs instead of feeling cobbled together.

For tonight's SuggestiON-AIR, we'll be talking about first albums. So, have a think back to the first record, tape, CD or (shudder) MP3 album you ever bought and share the secret with us via twitter, email or text (81771 once we get on air at 8pm)!
As always, we'll read as many as your contributions as we can then whack a few up on an updated version of this blog tomorrow. Oh, and we'll also end tonight's show with a track from one of our listeners' first ever albums!
Remember... be honest!
As for Team ATL, then...
