A round up of BBC announcements, press releases and blogs, plus some highlights from our TV, radio and online output last week.
U2 At The BBC
This week BBC Music today announced a world exclusive hour-long music entertainment show, U2 At The BBC, for BBC One to be broadcast in December and presented by Cat Deeley.
S4C and the BBC
On Monday the S4C Authority and the unitary Board of the BBC published the new agreement which will take the place of the operating agreement which has formed the basis of the relationship between the S4C Authority and the BBC Trust from 2013 to the end of March 2017.
BBC Arts - Civilisations Festival Partners
The BBC is inviting UK museums, galleries and libraries to become Civilisations Festival Partners - hosting events that will spark debate, broaden understanding and share ideas about what the term ‘civilisation’ means for their communities. Events can range from debates and speeches to performances and workshops - all based around items in their collections.
Announcements and blogs
Drama
The Media Pack for Peaky Blinders IV was published. In addition, it was confirmed on Thursday that BBC One’s hit daytime drama series Father Brown is set to return this December, for its sixth series, and opens with a Christmas Special before the series continues in January.
Comedy
After last year’s hilarious Peter Pan Goes Wrong, the Olivier Award-winning Mischief Theatre Company, the brains behind the hugely successful The Play That Goes Wrong and The Comedy About A Bank Robbery in the West End, return to the small screen with their take on Dickens’ famous festive fable this Christmas on BBC One in A Christmas Carol Goes Wrong.
Entertainment
BBC One Daytime has commissioned a series celebrating the positive impact local people can make in their own communities, Get a Good Thing Going.
Elsewhere, Sir Tom Jones and Beverley Knight will join forces to celebrate Christmas in style this year as they host and perform a feast of gospel music in a special programme for BBC Two and BBC One Wales, Gospel Christmas.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday it was confirmed that BAFTA winner Michael McIntyre returns with the third series of his BBC One family entertainment show, Michael McIntyre’s Big Show.
Children in Need
On Thursday it was announced that Scot Squad and River City stars join forces for Children In Need mash-up with Pudsey.
Regional
On Tuesday BBC Cymru Wales launched a scheme to find the next generation of comedy writers: Find Me Funny. Meanwhile, on Wednesday BBC Scotland announce search for panel of young people to shape BBC Scotland’s future output across TV, radio and online.
Blogs
Sacha Mirzoeff wrote about Drugsland: Gaining access and trust prove key to making compelling documentary; while Helen Bailey celebrated 50 years of BBC Radio Sheffield. In addition, David Simms from BBC Studioworks took us behind the scenes at BBC Children in Need. We also published the weekly BBC iPlayer Highlights 18-24 November.
