A round up of BBC announcements, press releases and blogs, plus some highlights from our TV, radio and online output last week.

From the Archive

A new category - From the Archive - launched on BBC iPlayer on Monday 25 September. There are 450 programmes from the BBC’s vast archive available, including footage which hasn't been shown since first broadcast.

The Apprentice 2017

Lord Sugar's search for a new business partner will return to BBC One on Wednesday 4 October, on Tuesday we introduced this year's candidates, 18 hopefuls all vying for the top spot and £250,000 investment for their business.

100 Women

On Wednesday the BBC revealed 60 of the inspirational individuals who have been chosen for inclusion on the BBC 100 Women list 2017. The remaining 40 places will be drawn from those who have supported, inspired and helped the teams on the ground over the course of four challenges, the first of which runs from 2-6 October in Silicon Valley, California.

Drama

On Wednesday, BBC One announced The Dublin Murders a series of novels by Dublin’s leading crime novelist Tana French will be adapted for the network by Sarah Phelps.

In addition, the media pack for Our Girl: series three - Nepal was published. 

Comedy

On Friday the media pack for Porridge was published. 

Factual

On Friday 22 September the champion of BBC One’s Celebrity MasterChef 2017 was crowned and on Wednesday 27 September Britain’s Lost Masterpieces returned to BBC Four with news that the show's historians had uncovered a lost portrait by Sir Peter Paul Rubens.

On Monday, Tom McDonald, BBC Head of Commissioning, Natural History and Specialist Factual, announced new line-up of Natural History commissions for BBC One and BBC Two.

And on Wednesday the BBC Pandemic app was launched, which will identify the human networks and behaviours that spread infectious disease. The data collated from the app will help improve public health planning and outbreak control. The results of the experiment will be revealed in a 90 minute landmark documentary, BBC Pandemic which will air in spring 2018 on BBC Four.

BBC One also announced, on Thursday, Anthony Joshua: The Fight Of My Life, an exclusive documentary bringing extraordinary insight into one of Britain's major sporting superstars in the final days before one of the biggest fights in recent history - the Joshua v Klitschko world title fight.

Entertainment

On Friday, BBC Studios opened the public song submissions to find the UK’s entry for the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal next May.

Radio

The new BBC Asian Network Breakfast Show presenter will be Harpz Kaur who will start on Monday 23 October.

On Thursday BBC Radio announced the University of Cambridge and First Story as the new partners for the BBC National Short Story Award, the BBC Young Writers’ Award and the BBC Student Critics’ Award, in a three-year collaboration starting in 2018.

World Service

The new Korean language service announced in November 2016 by the BBC World Service began broadcasting on Monday. 

Follows Tuesday’s publication of the findings of the World Service pay review, the BBC has decided to align the median pay for BBC World Service and BBC Monitoring journalists with that of their counterparts in BBC network news.

On Thursday, BBC World Service launched new video versions of BBC Minute - the dynamic 60-second news bursts aimed at younger audiences around the world - and signed new broadcasting agreements with radio stations in Egypt and Jordan.

Nations and regions

A record 25,000 runners have signed up to this year’s Cardiff Half Marathon and BBC Wales will be bringing both live coverage and highlights from the day’s events across all platforms on Sunday 1 October, with additional live coverage on BBC Radio Wales, BBC Radio Cymru and Online.

On Friday BBC Northern Ireland announced that novellist Gail Honeyman is the latest addition to the BBC Mount Stewart Conversations 2017.

Blogs

Kay Benbow, Controller CBeebies introduced the first animated TV series to star an autistic character and the first TV programme with an all-autistic core cast in CBeebies Pablo: empowering young people with autism, and we published BBC iPlayer Highlights 30 September-6 October.
