Perimeter and areaRhombus and kite

In this National 4 Lifeskills Maths study guide, you can revise how to find the perimeter and area of triangles, quadrilaterals (rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, kite and square), circles, arcs, sectors and composite shapes can all be calculated using relevant formulae.

Rhombus and kite

Area of a rhombus

The area of a rhombus is found by splitting it into two triangles.

Diagram of a rhombus and its diagonal values. 8.4cm by 6cm.

\(Area\,of\,top\,triangle =\frac{1}{2}\times 8.4\times 3=12.6cm^{2}\)

\(Area\,of\,rhombus =2\times 12.6=25.2cm^{2}\)

Area of a kite

The area of a kite is found in the same way as a rhombus, that is by splitting it into two triangles.

Parallelogram 8m by 2.2m

\(Area\,of\,top\,triangle =\frac{1}{2}\times 8\times 1.1=4.4cm^{2}\)

\(Area\,of\,kite=2\times 4.4=8.8cm^{2}\)
