Perimeter and areaArea of a triangle

In this National 4 Lifeskills Maths study guide, you can revise how to find the perimeter and area of triangles, quadrilaterals (rectangle, parallelogram, rhombus, kite and square), circles, arcs, sectors and composite shapes can all be calculated using relevant formulae.

Area of a triangle

The area of a triangle is found by multiplying \(\frac{1}{2}\) by the base by the height.

Diagram of two triangles with base and height values

Example 1

Diagram of a triangle with base and height values

\(Area = \frac{1}{2} \times base \times height\)

\(Area = \frac{1}{2} \times 10 \times 6\)

\(Area = 30c{m^2}\)

Question

Diagram of a triangle with base and height values

Work out the area of this triangle using \(Area = \frac{1}{2} \times base \times height\)
