Role play - At the cinema

Practise taking part in a conversation at the cinema. Read the instructions and prepare what you will say.

Scenario

Scenario: You are at the cinema in France. Your teacher works at the cinema and will speak first.

The bullet points give an idea of what might be asked, so use these to prepare. Where there is an exclamation mark (!) a surprise question will be asked and where there is a question mark (?), you will need to ask a question yourself.

Cinema employee: Bonjour. Je peux vous aider ?

Customer: Bonjour, monsieur. J’ai déjà acheté deux billets en ligne.

Cinema employee: Oui, utilisez la machine qui est là-bas.

Customer: La machine ne marche pas. Elle est en panne.

Cinema employee: Ah. Je suis désolé.

Customer: Il y a une autre machine ?

Cinema employee: Non, mais je peux vous donner vos billets. Le film est à quelle heure ?

Customer: C’est pour le film à vingt heures.

Cinema employee: Votre nom et votre code postal, s’il vous plait ?

Customer: Je m’appelle Carla Smith et mon code postal est SW20 9FF.

Cinema employee: D’accord. Merci et voilà vos billets. Quel film allez-vous voir le weekend prochain ?

Customer: Je vais aller voir un film romantique.

Translation:

Cinema employee: Hello. Can I help you?

Customer: Hello. I’ve already bought two tickets online.

Cinema employee: Yes, the machine is over there.

Customer: The machine isn’t working. It’s out of order.

Cinema employee: I’m sorry.

Customer: Is there another machine?

Cinema employee: No, but I can give you the tickets. What time is the film?

Customer: It’s for the film at eight o’clock.

Cinema employee: Your name and postcode please?

Customer: My name is Carla Smith and my postcode is SW20 9FF.

Cinema employee: OK. Thanks and here are your tickets. Which film are you going to see next weekend?

Customer: I’m going to see a romantic film.
