Chatting with friends about the weekend
If you wanted to ask friends what they did over the weekend you could ask...
Beth wnaethoch chi dros y penwythnos?
However, if you wanted to ask one friend what he/she did over the weekend you would ask:

Here are some possible answers to the above questions:
- Gwyliais i'r teledu. – I watched the television.
- Darllenais i lyfr ac es i i'r sinema. – I read a book and went to the cinema.
- Es i i'r sinema ac es i allan am bryd o fwyd. – I went to the cinema and went out for a meal.
Look at Writing about the past for more information on looking back over the weekend and past tense forms.
After you have found out what the person did over the weekend, you could then find out more information.

Hello, Tom.
Great. What programme did you watch? What film did you see and where did you eat?
Wil
Translate the above email into Welsh.
Helo Tom,
Gwych. Pa raglen deledu wyliaist ti? Pa ffilm wyliaist ti a ble fwytaist ti?
Wil
You could also ask for your friend’s opinions by asking:
- Beth ydy dy farn am...? – What’s your opinion of...? eg:
- Beth ydy dy farn am y rhaglen deledu?
- Beth ydy dy farn am y llyfr?
- Beth ydy dy farn am y bwyd?
Here are some possible answers. Can you match them with the appropriate questions?
- Yn fy marn i, mae’r rhaglen deledu yn sothachrubbish!
- Yn fy marn i, mae’r bwyd yn arbennig o dda.
- Yn fy marn i, mae’r llyfr yn ddiddorol.
You could discuss specific programmes on the TV by using the following:
Welaist ti Stricly Come Dancing dros y penwythnos? – Did you see Strictly Come Dancing over the weekend?
- Do, roedd y rhaglen yn arbennig o dda! – Yes I did, the programme was really good!
- Naddo, roeddwn i'n gweithio. – No I didn’t, I was working.
When discussing TV or online programmes, you do not need to translate the names of programmes in other languages. This also applies to books/magazines etc.
Now, why not combine all this information and listen to this audio clip?
