Healthy and unhealthy living - CCEASpeaking – Role-plays – At the Doctor’s/Pharmacy

Unfortunately, when we go on holidays there are times when we have to speak to a doctor or go to the pharmacy for medication. Below are some role-plays to help you practise what to say in these situations.

Role-play 1 – At the Doctor’s Surgery

You are on holidays and have to visit the doctor.

Tu es en vacances et tu dois aller chez le médecin.

- Dr: What is wrong?

- Qu’est-ce qu’il y a?

- You: Say that you are not well and are ill.

- Ça ne va pas, je suis malade.

- Dr: How do you feel?

- Vous vous sentez comment?

- You: Say that you feel hot and cold and have a temperature.

- J’ai chaud, j’ai froid et j’ai de la fièvre.

- Dr: When did it start?

- Ça a commencé quand?

- You: Say it started yesterday when you had a sore throat.

- Ça a commencé hier quand j’avais mal à la gorge.

- Dr: Have you been eating or drinking?

- Vous avez mangé ou vous avez bu?

- You: Say that you are not hungry and you have lost your appetite.

- Je n’ai pas faim et j’ai perdu l’appétit.

- Dr: You need to rest, drink lots of water and take aspirine.

- Vous avez besoin de vous reposer, de boire beaucoup d’eau et de prendre de l’aspirine.

- You: Say you will rest and try to drink water and will buy pills at the pharmacy.

- Je vais me reposer, j’essayerai de boire de l’eau et j’achèterai des comprimés à la pharmacie.

Role-play 2 – At the Pharmacy

You are on holiday in France and have to go to the pharmacy.

Tu es en vacances en France et tu dois aller à la pharmacie.

- Pharmacist: How can I help you?

- Je peux vous aider?

- You: Say you feel hot and think you have sunstroke.

- J’ai chaud et je crois que j’ai fait une insolation.

- Pharmacist: What is the matter?

- Qu’est-ce qu’il y a?

- You: Say that you have vomited and have sun burn and a sore head.

- J’ai vomi, j’ai pris un coup de soleil et j’ai mal à la tête.

- Pharmacist: How did you get it?

- Comment c’est arrivé?

- You: Say this morning you fell asleep in the sun.

- Ce matin je me suis endormi au soleil.

- Pharmacist: Have you been drinking water?

- Vous avez bu de l’eau?

- You: Say that you haven’t been drinking but will start now.

- Je n’en bois pas, mais je commencerai maintenant.

- Pharmacist: Stay out of the sun and take this rehydration treatment.

- Restez à l’ombre et prenez ce traitement pour vous réhydrater.

- You: Say thanks for the advice.

- Merci, c’est un bon conseil.
