Question

Prepare a series of questions to ask for information about your friend’s holiday. Here are some suggestions for you in English:

  1. Where did you go to on your holiday? – I ble est ti ar dy wyliau?
  2. Who did you go with?
  3. When did you go?
  4. How did you travel?
  5. What did you do?
  6. What did you see?

Question

How would you ask a group of people the same questions?

All the above questions start with question words such as Pryd?, Ble?, Pam?. If you wanted to ask a question in the past without these question words, you would need to use a soft mutation at the beginning of the verb:

  1. Deithiaist ti mewn awyren? – Did you travel on an aeroplane?
  2. Fwytaist ti'r bwyd lleol? –Did you eat the local food?
  3. Fwynheuodd y teulu'r gwyliau? –Did the family enjoy the holiday?
  4. Gawson nhw amser da? –Did they have a good time?

The Yes and No answers to the above questions would be:

Do. – Yes.

Naddo. – No.

Oedd hi'n bwrw glaw? – Was it raining?

Sut oedd y bwyd? – How was the food?

Oedd y bwyd yn flasus? – Was the food tasty?

The Yes and No answer to the above questions would be:

Oedd. – Yes.

Nac oedd. – No.

Example

Oedd y bwyd yn flasus? – Was the food tasty?

  • Oedd, roedd y bwyd yn flasus iawn. – Yes, the food was very tasty.
  • Nac oedd, doedd y bwyd ddim yn flasus. – No, the food wasn’t tasty.
