Message from Mark Byford
Wherever you are in the world, welcome.
In the BBC, we have set ourselves a considerable challenge: to be the most creative organisation in the world, putting creativity and audiences at the heart of everything we do.
Our vision encompasses the whole world in which we operate. Everyday, millions of people across the world watch, listen, log on or touch the BBC in some way, in nearly 50 languages.
We're a global player; we have a global vision. And you, our staff around the world, represent our global presence on the ground. You are our ambassadors.
So, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you all, personally, for your hard work and for the professionalism and energy you bring to everything you do for the BBC.
Around the world, staff have been sharing a range of ideas and concerns, some the same as UK staff, others different.
So, what are we doing? This Making it Happen around the world portal is a direct outcome of one of the things you had to say - communicate. But it's only a start.
Some of you have raised questions about your conditions of service. We're now working to introduce a range of initiatives, including a Statement of Commitment for our international people which, for the first time, will set out our principles of employment for locally-employed staff around the world.
A final word about our One BBC Values which emerged from the Making it Happen debate. The values shape everything we do and they enable people from all parts of the organisation to connect and collaborate for the benefit of our output and our audiences.
Our values express the things that we all really cherish about the BBC, and are a big part of putting One BBC into action. Achieving our aim will require all of us changing something about our behaviour, about the way we think and act.
Making the BBC the world's most creative organisation is up to all of us. Wherever we are in the world, it's in our hands.
Mark
