In addition to the radio series A History of the World in 100 Objects, during 2010 CBBC broadcast Relic: Guardians of the Museum. During the Autumn term of 2010, schools were invited to join the A History of the World project by taking part in The Relic Challenge.
Teachers asked their classes to bring in man-made objects from home and then chose up to five objects to upload to the A History of the World website. Judges from the BBC and museum partners then selected a number of objects on which to base a series of programmes for BBC Radio 7.
The objects did not have to be exotic or expensive and schools entered objects that showed how we once worked or lived, ones that held local relevance and others that represented their student's cultural backgrounds. Some schools uploaded historical objects from their school to tell a story.
These are the objects uploaded for The Relic Challenge that made the final selection for BBC Radio 7.
