| Monday, 3 June, 2002, 10:42 GMT 11:42 UK Carmarthenshire life on Jubilee display The exhibition looks at changes in fashion A Golden Jubilee exhibition in Carmarthenshire looks at how things have changed in the county over the past 50 years of the Queen's reign The display, in Carmarthen museum, entitled "50 Years On; The People's Half Century" portrays how fashion, work and technology has had an impact on the west Wales county.
People across Carmarthenshire have contributed a range of items. They range from butter makers and an early television set from the 1950s to modern mobile phones. Education executive member Mary Thomas said: "A lot has changed in Carmarthenshire since the Queen was crowned in 1952. "The exhibition is a good chance for people to appreciate just how different the world is today. "Younger visitors can also get an idea of how ordinary people used to live before getting used to the technology many of us take for granted." In 50 years, the county has seen the introduction of free health care, modern farming techniques and the Welsh language being given equal status.
But the period has also seen a decline of traditional coal and other heavy industries. Senior Curator Ann Dorsett said there has been a great deal of interest. She said: "We have had a really positive reaction which makes us realise how important it is to preserve these things. "The exhibition is a celebration of how lives have changed during the past 50 years, locally and nationally. "Teenagers are more interested in the past ten years and the exhibition brings back a lot of memories for the older generation. "It makes everybody realise that perhaps life isn't that bad after all." Tour The exhibition runs until 6 July then it will tour the county for the rest of the year. It will be in Parc Howard, Llanelli for July and August. Ammanford library will be the venue for September and October. The exhibition will be in Newcastle Emlyn library during November and December.
