| Friday, 31 May, 2002, 14:15 GMT 15:15 UK Elizabeth Windsor 'queen' of Tairgwaith Mrs Windsor is receiving royal attention While one Elizabeth Windsor celebrates her Golden Jubilee in the splendour of a castle, another will spend the day in the rather more humble surroundings of a Carmarthenshire mining village. Mrs Elizabeth Windsor, 75, from Tairgwaith near Ammanford, is guest of honour at a party in the village's Workingmen's club.
But she is quite embarrassed by the attention her famous name brings and prefers to be known by her middle name - Joan. It was her idea to have a party for the children and she will cut a cake in her honour. She said: "I like to keep in the background, nobody knows me as Elizabeth Windsor around here." Mrs Windsor acquired her 'royal' tag when she married miner Llewelyn Windsor in 1950 and moved to Tairgwaith two years later - just before the Queen's Coronation.
The village celebrated that occasion as well. She said: "There was a long table in the middle of the street and everybody brought food to the party - there was bunting everywhere." But despite the royal prestige Tairgwaith's Elizabeth Windsor would not like to swap her life with her namesake. She said: "I like my little humble life and home.
"It will be nice to be Queen for the day and then I'm looking forward to going back to being plain old 'Joan' again." The widow , like the Queen, has four children and six grandchildren and is well known in her village. Neighbour June Clark said Mrs Windsor fully deserves the attention. She said: "You couldn't wish to meet anyone nicer and she is always doing things for the children of the village." Fundraising Party organiser Catrin MacMillian, 30, said: "If it wasn't for Mrs Windsor nothing would have happened. "She started the ball rolling. "The party will bring everyone in the community together." Five hundred pounds has been raised locally for every child in the village to have a golden jubilee mug to remember the occasion. A donation will also be made to one of the Queen's charities.
