It is the first time in history that three princes - and the three next in line for the throne - have visited the city simultaneously.

Sadly for the younger princes, however, the church service coincides with England's opening World Cup match against Sweden - and both are keen soccer fans.

"We're both happy to be in Wales and supporting the Queen in the Jubilee year," said Prince William.

"Obviously we are sorry to be missing England's opening World Cup game, but of course we are confident England are going to do well."

Thousands of people are expected outside the church

Canon Alun Evans, vicar of Swansea will be leading the service but the score will not be given out from the pulpit.

He said: "I have no doubt that means will be found of letting them know the score.

"My concern really is with the act of worship but there will be people outside who will confirm it after the service is over."

A self-confessed rugby fan rather than a follower of football, the Canon added: "It's not my sport."

The service at St Mary's began at 1115 BST and the princes were due to leave just before 1230 BST.

The Queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, will also visit south west Wales on 12 June.

She will open the new lock at Burry Port harbour and perform the official opening of the Millennium Coastal Park in Llanelli.

They will also attend the Festival of Youth and Community service at Margam Park near Port Talbot.
