Council service cuts take effect

Bon Accord Baths
Attractions such as Bon Accord Baths will not open

Many of the cuts in services by Aberdeen City Council due to budget savings are taking effect.

Leisure attractions such as Bon Accord Baths will not open from Tuesday, while funding will stop for many charities and voluntary groups.

Supporters of the charity for the homeless, Cyrenians, will come face to face with council leader Kate Dean.

Meanwhile, campaigners fighting to save Doonies Farm at Nigg are due to meet council officials on Tuesday night.

Cyrenians volunteers and staff have been protesting over losing about 900,000 in subsidy.

Mass rally

They have set up a camp outside the council's Town House offices.

The group has said 30 jobs and four projects were under threat.

They claim that the cuts will cost lives and send drug users back onto the streets.

The closure of the art deco Bon Accord Baths in the city centre - Aberdeen's oldest pool - has led to a protest petition with thousands of names.

The council insists cutbacks must be made.

The protests will end with a mass rally on 5 April.
