Racecourse revamp gets under way
Impression of one of the new stands
Two stands will be refurbished and another five-storey one built
Work has begun on a 55m refurbishment of Doncaster Racecourse - home to the classic St Leger horse race.

The Town Moor track will be closed for 18 months while new facilities, including a five-storey grandstand and stables complex, are built.

Future phases of the scheme will include new accommodation for stable workers and a 200-bed hotel.

The redevelopment is a joint venture by Arena Leisure and the borough council, which owns the site.

While the work is carried out, the 2006 St Leger will be staged at York, but it is hoped Doncaster Racecourse will reopen in time to host the 2007 meet.
