Racing plans clear final hurdle

Two stands will be refurbished and a new one built
Plans to redevelop Doncaster racecourse have cleared the final hurdle with their approval by the borough's planning committee.

Arena Leisure is to invest 55m on new stands and stables as well as conference and exhibition facilities at the council-owned course.

The Town Moor track will be closed for 18 months while the work takes place.

Arrangements are being made to hold the 2006 St Leger at another course but the venue has yet to be decided.

Doncaster's elected mayor, Martin Winter, has already claimed that the new facilities at the racecourse will give a boost to the borough's economy and create hundreds of jobs.
