Spot checks are to be carried out on stores which were found to have piled up stock in changing rooms meant for the disabled. Visits will be paid to businesses across Banbury, Oxfordshire, to make sure they are now providing adequate facilities and access.
A survey last year revealed that some shops had filled their changing rooms and blocked aisles with stock.
Checks will target businesses in the Castle Quay centre.
They will run until the end of March.
Pauline Turner, who manages Greenwood Day Services for older people with learning disabilities, said: "Hopefully those businesses that needed to make changes will have done something to improve things for disabled people.
"In many cases it just requires a bit of reorganisation, stacking shelves when the shop is closed for instance so there aren't boxes all over the floor during opening hours, or not putting stock in the only changing room for people with disabilities, or making sure that the lift for disabled people isn't left broken."
