Santa fronts burglary crackdown
Burglar climbing through window
Last December 162 homes in Oxford were broken into
The police are turning to Father Christmas on Tuesday to help remind shoppers to lock up their homes and cars over the festive period.

Santa at Oxford's Templars Square shopping centre will be handing out leaflets with officers to launch Thames Valley Police's anti-theft campaign.

They are urging locals to be on their guard against opportunistic thieves.

Last year, 162 homes were burgled and 127 vehicles were broken into in Oxford during December.

The Home Office-backed leaflets contain tips on how best to avoid break-ins and urge residents not to leave their presents on show.

They will be handed out to parents who bring their children to Santa's grotto.

John Scott, Home Office regional director for the South East, said: "Nothing spoils a Christmas like a break-in.

"Hopefully with Santa's help we will be able to advise people on the best way to protect themselves and their property."
