Good start for festive crackdown
An initiative to crack down on alcohol- related crime during the festive period in north Worcestershire has started with good results, police have said.

Officers were out in force patrolling the streets of Redditch, Bromsgrove and Kidderminster on both Friday and Saturday evening.

Thirteen people were arrested for disorder, criminal damage, assault and drink-driving offences.

Police say Operation Christmas Presence has received positive feedback.

Acting Chief Insp Stacey Williamson, from West Mercia Police, said: "The feedback we had from members of the public, licensees and door staff alike was very encouraging.

"They welcomed the high visibility police presence and the majority of folk out enjoying themselves were doing so safely.

"Generally people were taking responsibility for their own behaviour and thinking before engaging in any disorderly activity."

She added that a large number of officers on foot were able to talk to people, diffusing situations before they escalated.
