City targeted in booze crackdown
Police are stepping up patrols in Derby city centre to target alcohol-related crime in the run-up to Christmas.

Extra beat officers will carry out patrols on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

The force will work alongside trading standards officers to clamp down on under-age alcohol sales and premises that serve after licensed hours.

Police will also use mobile CCTV and video cameras and drug sniffer dogs around pubs and clubs.

Violent crime

It follows a six-week long enforcement campaign during the summer.

Ch Insp Brian McKeown said: "We have made great strides in reducing crime across the division over the past year but the one area which has seen only a steady reduction is violent crime.

"This is something that's been reflected around the country and a major contributing factor to the problem is alcohol-related crime and disorder in our towns and Derby city.
