A clampdown on under-age drinking at hundreds of pubs and clubs in Nottingham has been launched. Police will carry out spot-checks at about 1,000 licensed premises in the run-up to Christmas.
Pubs which sell alcohol to people who are drunk and venues that promote rowdy behaviour will also be targeted.
Insp Paul Winter, area commander, said: "Now is the time for managers to make sure their staff know the rules and they comply with the law."
Police in Nottingham took part in a similar two-month campaign which ran nationwide during the summer.
One restaurant in the city lost its liquor licence for serving after-hours, while others received verbal and written warnings about their conduct.
Insp Winter said: "Those that do act irresponsibly have to recognise that they are fuelling anti-social behaviour.
"There is nothing under-hand about this campaign, we are being very open about the fact that licensed premises should expect a visit over Christmas."
Off licences will also be inspected, with police working alongside trading standards officers.
