More than 5,000 runners took to the streets of Liverpool on Sunday as part of a new athletics event in the city.

Competitors from across Europe and beyond took part in the "Run Liverpool L13 10K", which has brought together the former City of Liverpool 10K and the city's International Half Marathon.

Competitors from Kenya came first in both races, which started in the city's Strand.

Among those competing were also paralympic star Tanni Grey-Thompson and former 100K champion Simon Pride, as well as hundreds of charity fun runners.

Kenya's Wilf Tarragon won in the 10K and his fellow countryman, Wilson Kogo, came in first in half marathon.

The first city woman to finish the 10K was Helen Lawrence from Wirral Athletics Club.

Road closures were in force along the route, which takes in large parts of the city centre, and drivers were being warned to expect delays.
