Thousands of runners competed in the race |
A 28-year-old runner has collapsed and died during a marathon in Nottingham. The man, who has not yet been identified, was competing in the 23rd Robin Hood Marathon on Sunday when he collapsed near the Queen's Medical Centre.
He was treated outside the hospital at about 1130 BST, but could not be revived.
Marathon organiser Hugh Brasher said: "The runner collapsed at mile nine of the race and was immediately given medical treatment by a doctor and a midwife who were running in the race.
"This is a very tragic event and our thoughts go out to his family," Mr Brasher said.
The race attracted almost 10,000 entrants from around the East Midlands and the UK.
The marathon is run through the city centre, passing Nottingham Castle and Wollaton Park.
