Cancer woman's marathon effort
Vicky Hill
Vicky Hill was given 10 weeks to live by doctors
A Nottinghamshire woman who beat cancer after being told she only had weeks to live hopes to fulfil a big ambition this weekend.

Vicky Hill, 28, from Retford, has fought her way back to fitness and plans to run in Sunday's London Marathon.

After being diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, she was at one stage told she had only 10 weeks to live.

Now, three years later, she hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the medical teams who saved her life.

While still enjoying visits to the gym, she has noticed the difference her illness makes.

She said: "I haven't got the stamina and my circulation is very poor.

"My endurance is nothing like what it used to be."

She has suffered in mind, body and spirit

But she has shown the same determination to train for the marathon as she showed when fighting the cancer.

"When I'm out running in the park it's so beautiful. I look at the ducks and the wildlife and forget about the pain in my muscles."

She added: "It was surreal, the whole 10 weeks thing. I just laughed.

"I went out shopping and bought some bright clothes. It was just my way of coping."

Vicky, with her mother Sue Hill, helps out at the Cancer Research shop in Retford.

Sue, who is herself recovering from breast cancer, said: "I think she has suffered a lot, an awful lot.

"She has suffered in mind, body and spirit."
