Tomas Abyu and Martin Farrah gain first and second places |
Thousands of runners took to the streets of Leeds for the city's marathon.
The winners of the full marathon were Tomas Abyu in 2hr 24mins 54secs and Lisa Wilyman in 3hr 10mins.
While William Musyaki, 25, won the half marathon in 1hr 7mins 40secs and Catherine Mutwa, 25, completed the women's event in 1hr 16mins 23secs.
Both events, along with a fun-run, were kicked off by local hero and terminal cancer victim Jane Tomlinson.
Last month Jane, of Rothwell, cycled the 1,060 miles from John O'Groats to Lands End and days later ran the London Marathon in under six hours.
She said: "It's an honour to be able to start GE Leeds Marathon."
Jane has completed many races herself to raise money for charity |
Jane, who was diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago, had decided to sit out this race due to health reasons but husband Mike took part.
She has raised more than 135,000 for cancer charities since being diagnosed.
Also racing was the chairman of the Leeds & District Sports and Social Club for the Blind and Partially Sighted Tariq Ahmed, who took part in the half marathon.
Tariq, from Bradford, was assisted by a guide runner William Scott to complete the 13.1 miles.
The 38-year-old said: "I hope that the Leeds GE Marathon will be the first of many marathons I compete in from now on."
