Around 5,000 runners took part in the event which started from Millennium Square at 10am on Sunday 11 May. Inspirational runner Jane Tomlinson started the race - waving and shouting encouragement to the competitors as they began their run through the city. | | The Leeds Marathon 2003 gets underway |
Jane, from Rothwell, was diagnosed with breast cancer 12 years ago and has since completed the London Marathon, a triathlon and the Great North Run in 2002. She also recently cycled from John O'Groats to Land's End, but decided to sit out this race due to health reasons. The Leeds Marathon is well established as one of the top ten marathons in the country. The Full Marathon, Half Marathon, Corporate Challenge and Family Fun Run attract over 4,000 runners every year. | Check the times and see our full results for the full and half marathon races. |
