Jane Tomlinson was met by cheers from her family

Applause and cheers greeted the mother-of-three from Rothwell, Leeds, as she arrived at Land's End on a tandem bicycle along with her brother, Luke Goward.

Mrs Tomlinson, who planned to celebrate with a traditional Cornish cream tea, said: "It has been brilliant, I am absolutely thrilled."

The 39-year-old had to halt the challenge twice en-route to return to Leeds for chemotherapy.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer, 12 years ago and was told in 2001 that the cancer was terminal.

Mrs Tomlinson added: "I can't believe we are actually here.

"There have been some tricky moments on the way but we have just enjoyed it all.

"I am just very pleased to have finished.

"We worked very hard and raised a lot of money for charity."

The pair set off on the fundraising ride on 20 March, riding between 40 and 80 miles a day.

Brake cable

Setbacks along the way included a snapped brake cable and injuries to Mr Goward's knee.

The pair were met at the end by Mrs Tomlinson's husband Mike, and their children, Suzanne, 17, Rebecca, 15, and Steven, five.

Mr Tomlinson said: "My main emotion is definitely relief. When you set out on something as massive as this in her condition there is a real pride in finishing, but I'm just relieved that she's finished."

But it is not the end of the road for Mr Goward - he is due to run in the London Marathon on Sunday.

The ride has raised �96,000 in sponsorship, taking Mrs Tomlinson's total charity contributions to more than �215,000.
