Wish-list to keep county moving
A bypass for Earl Shilton, a further park and ride service and work to relieve Loughborough and Melton Mowbray top a transport blueprint for Leics.

The Local Transport Plan has ideas for improvements over five years.

It looks to reduce congestion and pollution, adding to bus services, with shared taxi services in rural areas.

County councillor Nicholas Rushton, transportation cabinet member, said its approach to highways and transport had gained high scores from the government.

Vehicle activated warning signs

He said transport problems were difficult to solve, but assured people the new plan would allow them to make further progress.

The plan has ideas to reduce road accident casualties with accident remedial schemes, and working with the police, road safety camera partnership and road safety training.

There will be further investment in traffic calming schemes and extensive use of vehicle activated warning signs.

The public has a further chance to comment before it goes in for final government approval and then becomes a formal document.

The county council said there has been a 26% fall in road accident casualties over the last few years, coupled with a network of hourly bus services available to 95% of residents.
