Leics County and Charnwood Borough councils have joined forces to put forward proposals for changes to the town and its transport systems.

There will be a caravan in Market Street for three days from 17 February explaining the options and seeking views from people.

Every home in the town and Hathern is being leafleted to canvas opinion.

'Genuine choices'

Harry Barber, from the county council, said the main plan is to divert traffic around the centre and to pedestrianise Swan Street.

He says the A6 trunk road, passing through the town, causes all sorts of problems for Loughborough.

Schemes are not finalised and residents are being asked to come up with ideas to fine tune the basics.

Mr Barber said of the public: "They have some genuine choices to make. It is not an easy thing for us or for them."

A previous scheme put to the public included creating a pedestrian zone by re-routing cars round the back of the old hospital, past Fennel Street and on to Bridge Street.
