The main road through Loughborough could be pedestrianised in an effort to ease traffic congestion. Leicestershire County Council is considering closing Swan Street to cars and creating an inner-loop road.
Some residents say that instead of solving the problem it will just move the traffic jams to a different part of the town.
But the council says pedestrianising the short stretch of the A6 area would make Loughborough safer for shoppers.
Creating the pedestrian zone would mean re-routing cars round the back of the old hospital, past Fennel Street and onto Bridge Street.
