Minister defends road noise work
M1 motorway
Residents want sound barriers to reduce the noise from traffic
The Transport Minister claims road resurfacing works will have "huge benefits" for residents living near a stretch of the M1 in Leicestershire.

Homeholders in the Narborough and Enderby area claim traffic noise is unbearable and say resurfacing work is not enough. They want sound barriers.

But Transport Minister David Jamieson said the resurfacing work will help.

Andrew Robathan, MP for the Blaby area, urged Mr Jamieson to visit the site and said the noise was "unbelievable".

More than 700 residents in the area have signed a petition calling for sound barriers.

Road resurfacing work is due to begin later this year.

Mr Jamieson said: "The programme has been brought forward for the resurfacing of the road... with quieter resurfacing materials which will have huge benefits."
